The Community Based Education (CBE) program in Afghanistan, established in 2002, aims to provide accessible and quality education to children in remote and underserved areas. This program is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, UNICEF, NGOs, and local communities. CBE classes (CBCs & ALPs) are set up in various community spaces and follow a flexible curriculum aligned with the MoE standards. With a focus on basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills, the program has significantly improved access to education, particularly for girls.
Soon more updates about On-Going Projects will be shared.

With a focus on basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills, the program has significantly improved access to education, particularly for girls. CBE teachers, often recruited from the local community, receive specialized training to deliver quality education in resource-constrained environments. Robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms ensure accountability and continuous improvement. Recognized as a successful model, the CBE program contributes to increased enrollment rates, improved literacy levels, and the empowerment of Afghan communities through education, positively impacting the overall development and well-being of children in hard-to-reach areas.
IATO is honored and proud to have recently been entrusted with a significant CBE project in Badakhshan, targeting the districts of Warduj, Jorm, and Darayem. Within this program, we have been handed over a total of 150 classes, comprising 123 Community-Based Classes (CBCs) and 27 Accelerated Learning Programs (ALPs). These classes collectively serve a diverse student body, with a total enrollment of 4,517 students, of whom 2,365 are girls and 2,152 are boys. Currently, our CBCs are in grade 4, while the ALPs are in grade 5. Our unwavering commitment lies in delivering inclusive and quality education, empowering these young learners and nurturing their intellectual growth and development. By fostering a supportive learning environment, we aim to further equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their personal and academic pursuits. Through the CBE program, we strive to create a brighter future for all children, leaving no one behind in pursuit of education.
